Third 'Takeout Tuesday' moves to top others with major prizes

April 6, 2020

The Great American Takeout returns Tuesday for its third week, this time with a chance to win a year of free takeout, according to a news release.

As an added incentive this week, Shift4 Payments is giving $5,000 to be used at restaurants to one diner who shares a photo of their takeout meal on social media using the #TheGreatAmericanTakeout.

Additionally, Shift4 Payments and Tyson Foodservice will donate to the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund based on social media posts supporting #TheGreatAmericanTakeout. For every social post tagged Tuesday with #TheGreatAmericanTakeout, Tyson Foodservice will make a $5 donation up to $25,000, and Shift4 Payments will make a $1 donation up to $10,000 to the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, which supports U.S. restaurant workers financially impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

"As COVID-19 continues to impact every aspect of our day-to-day lives, restaurants are being hit especially hard," Nate Hirshberg, Vice President of Marketing for Shift4 Payments, said in the release. "Through our Shift4 Cares initiative, we've committed to raising over $200 million for our restaurant customers. By partnering with The Great American Takeout, we hope to help restaurants of all sizes weather this storm."

The Great American Takeout is supported by a coalition of more than 400 restaurants nationwide, as well as partners like The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo, Ventura Foods and PrizeLogic. The initiative has generated widespread buzz, reaching more than 117 million people nationwide.

According to Lieberman Inc. / FRC Research New York, 35% of the total U.S. population is aware of The Great American Takeout, and the program has raised $175,000 to date for charitable organizations supporting restaurant workers.
