Tim Hortons' Doughnut Day contest prompts early AM. sales

As part of National Doughnut Day coming June 1, Tim Hortons U.S. will pay high "hole-y" day homage to the treat by giving guests in select markets the chance to win a year of free doughnuts, as well as edible 24-karat gold Timbits — bite-sized doughnuts —  a news release said. 

Five locations in the three Midwest cities of Detroit, Michigan, along with Columbus, Ohio and Buffalo, New York. are the center of the action, which is assured to boost early morning sales. The contest prompts the first in-restaurant guest after 6 a.m. on June 1 to ask for the "Gold Timbits" at that handful of locations. In return, that individual gets the golden Timbit along with the free doughnuts-for-a-year prize.
