Tim Hortons' annual Smile Cookie campaign kicks off today throughout North America, raising funds for local charities and hospitals. According to a news release, restaurant owners donate 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of the $1 chocolate chunk smile cookies.
"The impact of the purchase of each Smile Cookie is tremendous," VP of Marketing David McMullen said in the release. "At Tim Hortons we are fortunate to have very loyal guests and with their support, along with the generosity of our restaurant owners, the campaign becomes larger and larger every year allowing us to support hundreds of deserving charities and initiatives. We are grateful to have this opportunity."
The Smile Cookie campaign began in 1996 to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children's Hospital in Ontario and has grown to become an annual fundraising event at Tim Hortons restaurants across North America. Last year, the campaign raised more than $5 million across Canada and the U.S. More than 500 local charities are supported each year through the campaign, the release said.
New this year, guests can share a selfie with a Smile Cookie then share via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #Smile Cookie.
