Tim Hortons to add $30M coffee roasting facility

OAKVILLE, Ontario — Tim Hortons has expanded its 45-year commitment to coffee excellence,
announcing a $30-million, state-of-the-art coffee bean production and roastingfacility. (All amounts are in Canadian dollars.)
 
The Hamilton, Ontario-based operation will improve efficiencies andquality control from "bean to cup," and will ensure Tim Hortons store ownerscontinue to provide the best coffee for the best value in North America.
 
"Coffee is the foundation of our success," said Don Schroeder, presidentand CEO, Tim Hortons Inc. "This $30-million investment in coffee research andproduction is one of the largest of its kind in Canada and reinforces ourcommitment to delivering the best cup of coffee every time to every customer."
 
The 74,000-square-foot plant will be capable of producing hundreds ofmillions of cups of coffee a year through an advanced processing, roasting andhigh-speed packaging system. The facility also will house an innovativeresearch and development centre to help preserve Tim Hortons' unique coffeeblend.
 
Tim Hortons operates a second coffee plant in Rochester, N.Y. Whenfully operational, the two plants will produce approximately 75 percent ofthe company's coffee requirements.
 
The new plant construction, which includes the latest technology inenvironmental and safety controls, will generate an estimated 80 constructionjobs. When fully operational, the plant creates another 50 permanent positionsand will be capable of expanding to accommodate additional products.
 
Construction is underway. The plant is expected to be operational by thefourth quarter of 2009.
