Tim Hortons is headed to the Philippine. Restaurant Brands International Inc today announced the formation of a new master franchise joint venture company that will take the Tim Hortons restaurant brand into Southeast Asia for the first time. A group of Philippine investors behind the new company, called TH Coffee Services Philippine Corporation, will serve as the master franchisee of Tim Hortons in that area of the globe.
"The master franchise joint venture model has been a successful strategy for the Burger King brand and we expect it will continue to help us drive growth and build scale for the Tim Hortons brand over the long-term," said Restaurant Brands International CEO Daniel Schwartz.
Tim Hortons President Elías Díaz Sesé agreed, saying, "We are working with partners who have a deep understanding of the Philippines, which we believe will position them well for success in developing and growing the brand in the region."
Canadian-based Restaurant Brands International has recently been working to grow the chain with a lot of new U.S. locations opening this year, but this is the first big move toward its efforts to grow the brand internationallyl.
The chain already has a strong base of restaurants across Canada, the U.S. and the Middle East. Tim Hortons started in Canada in 1964 and spread into the U.S. 20 years later.
"The Embassy of Canada welcomes the entry of Tim Hortons, one of Canada's iconic food sector brands, to the Philippines. …" said Canada's Ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder. "We see this new Canadian investment in the Philippines as a platform that will create new opportunities for Canadian businesses and offer more jobs and opportunities for Filipinos."
TH Coffee Services Philippines Corporation CEO Enrique Y. Yap Jr said the population of the Philippines alone guarantees some amount of success for the partnership as it moves to open locations on the island nation.
"We are proud to introduce the Tim Hortons brand to the Philippines, which is home to approximately 100 million people today," said Yap Jr. "Canada's favorite coffee will be a welcome addition to the market."
