Wendy's adds chicken to pretzel sandwich line

October 1, 2013

Wendy's is leveraging the success of its Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, launched in July, by adding a Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwich option.

Earlier this year, the pub-style cheeseburger outperformed any other promotional hamburger in test markets in Wendy's recent history. Now, chicken lovers will be able to try the artisan pretzel bun with the new sandwich rollout. It is available for a limited time in the U.S. and Canada until November.

"Chicken sandwich lovers told us at the front counter, the drive-thru and especially in 140 character tweets why they deserved the pretzel treatment — and we're responding in a big way," said Liz Geraghty, Wendy's VP of Brand Marketing. "If your neighborhood upscale pub teamed up with Wendy's to create a chicken sandwich, the Pretzel Pub Chicken would be it."

According to the company, the new sandwich features:

  • An artisan-baked pretzel bun:Wendy's pretzel buns are made using the same process of traditional soft pretzels. Each pretzel bun is hand cut.
  • Pub-inspired flavors:The Pretzel Pub Chicken includes an all-white meat breast fillet, slightly breaded and topped with a spring mix, sliced red tomato, slice of Muenster cheese, warm cheddar cheese sauce and honey mustard.
  • Made-to-order:Customers can order it lightly breaded Homestyle, Spicy or Grilled.

The recommended price for the Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwich is $4.79.
