Wendy's announces positive Q2 same-store sales
July 9, 2008
DUBLIN, Ohio — Wendy's International Inc. has announced its preliminary average same-store sales for the second quarter of 2008, which ended June 29, 2008.
Average same-store sales at U.S. restaurants were up 1.2 percent over last year, with company-operated stores up 0.1 percent and U.S. franchise restaurants up 1.1 percent.
The company faced a calendar shift with the Easter holiday falling in the first quarter of 2008 opposed to the second quarter a year ago. This positively impacted same-store sales at company-operated restaurants by an estimated 0.3 percent during the quarter.
Wendy's had several food launches during the second quarter, including a re-launch of its premium salad lineup with warm instead of cold chicken and the introduction of a new line of salad dressings, three new flavors of Frosty shakes and new Chicken Go Wraps. Wendy's also reduced the sodium level in each of its salad dressings by about 10 to 15 percent.
The company plans to release its 2008 second-quarter results on Aug. 5, the same day that Triarc Companies Inc., owner of Arby's, plans to release its earnings. Due to the merger between Wendy's and Triarc, which was announced on April 24, management does not plan to hold a conference call to discuss second-quarter results.
