Wendy's of Michigan and Ohio had an internal bottled water drive the week of Feb. 1 to help the community of Flint, Michigan, during that city's water crisis, according to a company statement.
At the urging of Assistant Manager Airron Freeman, the Wendy's of Michigan and Ohio Team developed a plan for their managers and crew to donate water and bring it one of the 67 Wendy's restaurants in the Western Michigan and Toledo, Ohio, areas. Meritage Hospitality, which owns and operates Wendy's of Michigan and Ohio, matched the donations, which resulted in over $800 and 260 cases of water being raised and donated to the city of Flint.
Since then, the Wendy's Company and six additional Michigan franchisees have joined the effort. In total, the effort has raised more than 1,500 cases of water for the people of Flint.
"It makes me proud to say that in the last few months we collected and distributed coats, hats, and gloves for local children, sold thousands of dollars in Key Tags for adoption, gave $100,000 to Helen Devos Children's Hospital, and now internally collected and donated water to the unfortunate people in Flint," said Mike Baldwin, area director for Wendy's of Michigan and Ohio. "This is a tremendous example of 'Give Something Back' and I truly appreciate the dedication from each and every one on our team."
