Wendy's opens 500th international location

Wendy's celebrated the opening of its 500th international location in December with the launch of a new store in Guatemala City, Guatemala, under the operation of the Alimentos Corporativos Coralsa franchise organization, a news release said.

Alimentos signed on with the Wendy's system almost three years ago and now has 13 restaurants in Guatemala. Wendy's boasts a current total of 6,500 locations in the U.S. and 28 other countries. 

"In the past year, we've grown our international portfolio by more than 60 net new restaurants," Wendy's President and CEO Todd Penegor said in the release. 

Other recent openings include new locations in Brazil, Chile, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.
