Wendy's 'strips-down' chicken for salad days of summer

Wendy's is entering a stripped-down chicken sandwich in the hotly contested QSR chicken category this summer with its summer strawberry chicken salad that includes strawberries, Applewood-smoked bacon, a Tuscan cheese blend and Champagne Vinaigrette on chopped lettuce and spring mix, a news release said.

"From our Jalapeño Popper Chicken Salad to our Southwest Avocado Salad and now, our new Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad, we consistently lean into on-trend ingredients to give our customers flavorful salad options they can't find anywhere else," Wendy's U.S. CMO Carl Loredo said in the release. "Others have chosen to step away from salads, but we're going to keep being there for our customers when that fresh, summer salad craving hits."

The item can now be found at the brand's stores nationwide as a combination of sweet and savory flavors for $6.99. In fact, those ordering $15 or more of Wendy's fare through Grubhub from June 9 through June 13, will get a free summer strawberry chicken salad.

Wendy's, based in Columbus, Ohio, has more than 6,800 restaurants worldwide.
