Calling ghost kitchens an "important part" of its growth, Wendy's Restaurants of Canada said it was partnering with neighborhood kitchen provider, REEF, to launch a Toronto-area kitchen. The Columbus, Ohio-based QSR said that the first virtual kitchen will be followed by others in Canada, according to a news release.
REEF has more than 100 virtual neighborhood kitchens in 20 North American markets, as well as 4,500 parking areas. Wendy's said that fact enables it to test a new format in dense downtown areas of Canada through these sorts of neighborhood hubs that allow restaurant brands to expand delivery services.
"Building a brick-and-mortar restaurant in every neighborhood across Toronto may not always be possible," Stephen Piacentini, Wendy's vice president, Global Restaurant Development and Recruiting, said in the release. "By partnering with companies like REEF, we can bring Wendy's into dense, urban areas without the overhead of operating a traditional restaurant space."
Wendy's has over 6,800 locations worldwide.
