Wendy's unveiling open kitchen design

Wendy's new smaller "Smart 55" building design gets the big "reveal" Monday, in Mississippi. The state's newest location of the chain in Gluckstadt features a tighter footprint, with an open kitchen design, a news release said. The dining area features an assortment of mixed-use seating and exterior changes from the chain's more traditional store, according to the release.

"In addition to this new restaurant we have been very actively updating our existing restaurants throughout the state," franchisee Carlisle's Senior Vice President of Operations Brian McDaniel, said in the release. "Building new restaurants and remodeling existing ones is part of our multi-year strategy to reinvest in our local communities and provide a better quick-service experience."

Wendy's now has more than 6,500 restaurants in 29 countries and U.S. territories.
