Wendy's/Arby's inks another international development deal

August 10, 2010

One day after announcing a 180 dual-branded restaurant agreement in Russia, Wendy's/Arby's International has signed a long-term development agreement in the Eastern Caribbean.

Specifically, the terms call for 24 Wendy's restaurants throughout the next 10 years in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as eight other markets.

The first of these stores will open in Trinidad in 2011.

Planned markets also include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and Suriname.

The franchise expansion is led by Dane Darbasie, who has 17 years of experience in the restaurant industry.

“This agreement will enable us to expand Wendy’s brand presence throughout the Caribbean basin,” said Roland Smith, Wendy’s/Arby’s Group president and CEO.  “In the north, our franchise restaurants in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas generate some of the highest annual unit volumes in our international system; and, in the west, we have a growing presence in Central America.  Now, we’re building on this regional momentum by entering the Eastern Caribbean with a highly capable franchise team.”
