White Castle has not only attained a significant environmental honor for its Columbus, Ohio, corporate headquarters, but will be graced by three music legends in this year's Cravers Hall of Fame class, which bestows membership only on the brand's most loyal fans.

The 99-year-old privately owned QSR said in a news release that it received Gold certification for its home office interior improvement by the LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design organization, a global green building rating system. This follows the building's opening late last year, White Castle said.

"We're extremely proud and humbled to receive LEED certification," White Castle President and CEO Lisa Ingram, said in the release. "From the very start, we knew we wanted to create a space that operates sustainably and gives our team members a healthy, more comfortable place to work. That focus on building a clean and safe environment certainly means more today than we ever anticipated, and the certification confirms that we succeeded."

LEED certification ensures buildings employ design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health. White Castle achieved LEED Gold for implementing practical and measurable solutions around sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

For example, White Castle used low-emitting materials and finishes to enhance the building's air quality, while its waste-free café features all reusable cups, plates and silverware.

3 icons inducted into White Castle Hall of Fame

White Castle is giving its own recognition as well, admitting three music icons to the White Castle Hall of Fame, including:

  • Tommy Shaw, front-man for the rock band, Styx.
  • John Prine, the late country, folk and bluegrass singer-songwriter, who died in April.
  • Danny Zelisko, renowned concert promoter who worked with both Prine and Shaw.

Reserved for the most devout fans, White Castle's Cravers Hall of Fame has been inducting legends from main street to the main stage for nearly 20 years. Among the well-known honorees are shock rock icon, Alice Cooper, as well as the late comic pioneer, Stan Lee, and the stars of the movie, "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle," John Cho and Kal Penn.

This year's inductees will be celebrated in a socially distanced ceremony at an as-yet-unannounced Nashville White Castle at 5 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 13.
