White Castle candle returns to satisfy the crave

October 12, 2010

White Castle and NEST Fragrances have teamed up again to bring customers their favorite hamburger scent. The Original Slider-Scented Candle has helped benefit an autism fundraising television concert.

The candle comes in a ceramic holder representing the iconic cardboard White Castle Slider packaging. The candle debuted in May to celebrate White Castle's 18th annual National Hamburger Month. Nearly 10,000 candles sold out in less than 48 hours, and the proceeds were donated to Autism Speaks.

"When we first introduced The Original Slider-Scented Candle in our stores and online last May, we had no idea it would become the national phenomenon it did," said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president of corporate relations.

On Oct. 21, "Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education" will air on Comedy Central. Viewers who make a phone donation of $100 or more will receive a complimentary Original Slider-Scented Candle.

"Night of Too Many Stars" will feature celebrities such as host Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Jimmy Fallon, Lewis Black, Ricky Gervais and Chris Rock. The phone-a-thon proceeds will go toward autism education and family service programs across the country. This event has raised nearly $7 million since 2005.

Donations can be made at "Night of Too Many Stars" website. Sometime after Oct. 21, White Castle restaurants will be selling the candles for the holiday season while supplies last.
