White Castle offers free meals for federal workers, 'slider detante' for nation

January 25, 2019

White Castle is hoping to both ease the financial pains of paycheck-less federal workers and be a point of unification for Congress and President Trump during the government shutdown, through what the burger chain is calling a Slider Summit in the nation's capitol, a news release said. In addition to the QSR's call for a burger detante, it's also inviting federal employees to drop by the "castle" for a free No. 1 through 6 combo meal, or any breakfast combo meal.

The chain has inserted itself in the national story by offering to send its Crave Mobile to Washington, D.C. There, the burger brand said it and its renowned sliders will serve as a point of sustenance at a proposed summit of national leaders around the disagreements that now have us in longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

The hope, of course, is not only to draw some attention from the national story to the brand, but to use sliders to "grease the tracks," for an agreement that will end the lengthy shutdown.

"We're willing to drive the Crave Mobile more than 300 miles to Washington D.C. (from the company's home base in Columbus, Ohio) for the first-ever Slider Summit to assist with finding a solution that works for all Americans," White Castle Vice President Jamie Richardson said in the release

The free federal worker meals are also available Jan. 29 at nearly 400 White Castle locations nationally. Next Friday, Feb. 1, Richardson and White Castle will be the featured guest on the weekly QSRweb podcast, as well.
