Eighteen months. That's how long White Castle said it will be before the privately owned chain opens its first Florida location since its Miami "Castle" closed in the 1960s. The announcement came as great news for the brand's 9,300 fans on the Bring White Castle to Florida Facebook page who were first to learn of the plans, according to a news release.

Next, the brand held a kickoff event at its future Florida "castle" site, complete with the White Castle "Royal Town Crier" in Orlando's The Village at O-Town West mixed-use development on Daryl Carter Parkway. The new 4,500-square-foot location will be among the company's largest when it opens late next year or early 2021.

"Florida Cravers have long been asking for us to open a castle there," White Castle President and CEO Lisa Ingram, said in the release. "We believe now is the right time for us enter the Sunshine State, and Orlando is an ideal location to launch our business there."

This decidedly sunny move comes just after the brand also opened its first store in Arizona, in Scottsdale late last month. That was the brand's first company-owned castle west of the Mississippi River. Aside from that location, the brand has more than 375 restaurants in 13 states, soon to be 14 when the new store opens in Florida.
