The U.S.-based hot dog QSR chain, Wienerschnitzel, has commandeered today's National Wiener Schnitzel Day, as its own. Although the folks who came up with this fabricated "holiday" at the National Day Calendar organization designated Sept. 9 as the occasion for Americans to honor the Viennese-breaded veal cutlet dish of Wiener Schnitzel (officially two words), the Wienerschnitzel (one word) hot dog chain has morphed this Tuesday into a celebration of the brand.
In fact, customers who go online to the Wienerschnitzel's social media accounts can retrieve a coupon to redeem a free chili dog with a purchase at any of the chains 327 stores in 11 states. The company said in a news release that chili dogs were its most popular item.
"What better way to celebrate our national day than by giving away our most popular item," CMO Doug Koegeboehn, said in the release. "Customers rave about them all the time, and with the quality cuts of meat we use to make them, it's no surprise they're a fan favorite."
Wienerschnitzel is based in Irvine, California, and its parent company, the Galardi Group, also owns the Hamburger Stand and Tastee-Freez brands.
