Yum's net up 31%

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Worldwide comparable-store sales at Yum! Brands Inc. restaurants rose 4 percent for the 2008 first quarter ended March 22, 2008, fueled in part by a 12 percent comp increase in the company's mainland China operations. Comps for the company's International division rose 5 percent, while U.S. comps rose 3 percent.
Yum! operates the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's and A&W brands.
Yum's revenues were $2.4 billion in the first quarter, up 9 percent compared with revenues of $2.2 billion in the first quarter of 2007. Net income for the quarter was $254 million, up 31 percent compared with net income of $194 million for last year's first quarter.
