Zagat today released results of its Fast Food Survey, rating 136 major dining chains in categories ranging from best healthy options to best french fries and child-friendliness.
The ratings are based on more than 6,500 diners who ate at chain outlets more than 10 days a month. Survey respondents then rated each on various subjects using Zagat's 30-point scale.
The chains were divided into four categories: Large (up to 5,000 U.S. outlets); Mega (more than 5,000); Full-Service (with table service); and Quick-Refreshment (focusing on beverages, ice cream, etc.).
Wendy's was recognized as the top food champion in the mega category. In-N-Out Burger earned the top food nod in the large category.
Health-conscious diners chose Subway as the best in this category for the mega segment.
Starbucks bested Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's in the coffee category. Dairy Queen was recognized for having the best milkshakes, followed by Cold Stone Creamery and Sonic.
McDonald's was listed as best value among QSR establishments. The chain was also listed as the top breakfast, value meal, child-friendly atmosphere and drive-thru component. Additionally, McDonald's earned best french fries for the third year in a row.
Other QSRs recognized behind McDonald's for their values include Panera Bread, Chipotle, Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A.
