With key ingredients like sarsaparilla root and birch bark, A&W's namesake root beer has to be one of the oldest — if not the oldest — plant-basedQSR beverage. It's only fitting then that today the more than 100-year-old chain that built its name on its unique take on that foamy drink, said it would make the plant-based Beyond Burger available as a menu item to all U.S operators by year's end.
But, that's just one of the interesting revelations QSRweb podcast listeners can hear more about in today's one-on-one with A&W CEO Kevin Bazner. The popular chief executive has performed quite a turnaround at the QSR over his past eight years back in the role after the chain's franchisee-owners returned him to the top spot when they bought A&W from Yum Brands in 2011. Since then, neither the franchisees nor Bazner has ever looked back.
