At the 2014 National Restaurant Association show, digital signage and kiosks were heating up the show floor. NEC Display Solutions showcased a three-by-three video wall composed of 55-inch screens, and NEXTEP Systems showed off a touchscreen-equipped self-order kiosk for the drive-thru.
NEC Vice President of Product Marketing and Solutions Richard Ventura talked to FastCasual.com's Cherryh Butler about the NFC-enabled (for installing and programming purposes) screens running 4K content from an Android player, all of which combine to help lower total TCO for smaller restaurant chains and brands. "This is a huge win-win for the restaurant industry," Ventura said.
And NEXTEP Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ihor Diachenko showed Batler the kiosk he called "the world's fastest drive-thru," which typically pays for itself in six to eight months, he said.
