Checkers, Rally's sold to private equity firm

Tampa, Fla.-based Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc., which operates and franchises approximately 800 Checkers and Rally's restaurants, announced Friday that its private equity ownership group, Wellspring Capital Management, entered into an agreement to sell the company to Sentinel Capital Partners.

According to a news release, terms of the stock purchase agreement are confidential.

Sentinel Capital Partners' website says the company invests in management buyouts, acquisitions of family businesses, corporate divestitures, industry consolidations and going-private transactions. Its portfolio includes Border Foods, a Taco Bell franchisee; Southern California Pizza Company, a Pizza Hut franchisee; and Falcon Holdings, a Church's Chicken franchisee.
