McDonald's adds Cuties clementines as Happy Meal side option

McDonald's USA has introduced Cuties California Clementines as a side option for Happy Meals.

The Sun Pacific Cuties join McDonald's Happy Meal and Mighty Kids Meal side choices that currently include apple slices and Go-Gurt. They can also be purchased a la carte.

According to a news release, California-grown Cuties will be available during their peak season now through March 2015.

"We know our customers and parents are looking for ways to enjoy more great-tasting and fun sides in our Happy Meals, and Cuties are the perfect fit," said Greg Watson, senior vice president of menu innovation, in the release. "As part of our commitment to help families make more nutritious choices, we'll continue to explore more fruit and low-fat dairy sides for our youngest customers."

McDonald's tested Cuties in approximately 70 restaurants around Austin, Texas. The company is currently testing "junior" bananas, which are smaller than standard bananas. Depending on test results, the junior bananas could be offered as soon as next year.
