McDonald’s plans to add more supplier audits in China following the July investigation that uncovered egregious food safety violations, including the sale of expired meat.
The company told Reuters that half of the audits will be unannounced and will be done by a third party. The company will add more video monitoring at its suppliers in China, as well as more quality control specialist visits.
McDonald’s also created a new food safety governance position in the China market and plans to introduce a hotline where consumers can report any additional food safety issues, the story said.
McDonald’s sales in July fell 7.3 percent in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa markets. The company cited the supplier crisis for the decline.
