Yelp-foodjunky.com partnership gives restaurateurs a front seat at the corporate catering table
A new alliance in the tech world is one worth watching for all restaurateurs but especially those whose bottom line is heavily affected by corporate catering orders. This week, the online corporate food-ordering tech start-up, foodjunky.com, announced it has partnered with Yelp in an online food-ordering service. The partnership will bring a new slew of commerce-enabled restaurants to Yelp, said foodjunky.com CEO Travis Johnson.
"We are very excited about our new partnership with Yelp and look forward to increasing awareness on the benefits of online food ordering," he said in a company press release. "This pairing will not only provide consumers across the nation with reviews of restaurants but also the ability to order directly from the Yelp mobile app and website."
The platform launches officially in the next few weeks and will enable online ordering through the Yelp website and app, directly from businesses' pages.
"Partnering with foodjunky.com allows Yelp to expand food order and delivery options for restaurants, one of our most popular categories for transactions on Yelp," said Yelp Business and Corporate Development Senior Vice President Chad Richard. "Their service will enable even more restaurants on Yelp to offer pickup and delivery via Yelp."
The 5-year-old Detroit-based foodjunky.com is currently the fastest growing food start-up in the nation, according to a news release. It provides a centralized online ordering portal to more than 7,000 restaurants in 29 states and 250 metropolitan markets. In fact, a news release said that foodjunky.com is now adding 1,000 new restaurants a month to its website. The company does not charge restaurants for the service; instead, it adds a convenience charge for users.
Yelp launched in 2004, in San Francisco and has more than 100 million local business reviews for retailers in 32 countries. The company said that on a monthly basis this year alone, approximately 69 million unique people visited Yelp via mobile web, while 77 million unique visitors visited Yelp via desktop.
