Analyst lauds McDonald's move to new McDouble burger

October 29, 2008

Forbes: An RBC Capital Markets analyst said McDonald's Corp.'s plans to replace its Double Cheeseburger with the McDouble, which has two hamburger patties and one slice of cheese, could help boostcash flowand sales at the chain.

McDonald's will ask franchisees to replace the Double Cheeseburger on the popular Dollar Menu with the new McDouble and increase the price of the Double Cheeseburger above $1.

The analyst estimated that customers in test markets continue to order the Double Cheeseburger 60 percent to 70 percent of the time despite the higher price. If that behavior continues, it could help increase the company's same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year.
