Arby's deploys energy savings, food safety monitoring system

September 17, 2013

Arby's Restaurant Group announced it is installing Powerhouse Dynamics' eMonitor systems in all 860-plus corporate-owned stores across the country. The rollout is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year.

"We have been very impressed by the capabilities of the eMonitor," said Scott Boatwright, senior vice president of Operations at Arby's. "Not only will the system enable us to get HVAC costs under control in the restaurants where they have been installed, but they will also help identify problems with both rooftop cooling units and refrigeration equipment."

The eMonitor controls HVAC and other electrical loads with an enterprise-wide, web interface and mobile apps. It also remotely monitors equipment to diagnose performance issues and identify savings opportunities. Also, while information is being gathered at each company-owned store, the eMonitor benchmarks energy and water usage across all facilities regionally and nationally. This allows multi-location companies to identify star performers and share best practices, according to a news release.

Arby's is also taking advantage of the eMonitor's "Food Safety Scorecard," a feature that continuously monitors temperature in relevant refrigeration (and potentially) heated holding equipment. The Scorecard supports a chainwide requirement to monitor product temperatures, in order to identify issues before they become food safety emergencies.
