Arby’s is moving up the food chain when it comes to of-the-moment culinary trends as the chain becomes the country’s first QSR to put that little darling of foodies everywhere, pork belly, on the menu.
This week Arby’s launched a new smokehouse pork belly sandwich with two thick slabs of the stuff, covered in a blanket of smoked cheddar cheese, crispy onions, barbecue sauce and mayo on a toasted roll. As those in the porcine-related "know" will tell you, pork belly, is like bacon on steroids, so the sandwich is poised to entice the bacon-loving American public.
Pork belly's addition to the menu follows two other recent Arby’s smoky sandwich additions, including brisket and turkey. The chain said in a news release that it even offers a literal sandwich trifecta including all three meats in its new smoky mountain sandwich, which features, pork belly, brisket and turkey in one portable package. Together the three smoky stars form the chain’s Smokehouse menu with a total of four of the salty, smoked-out meat creations, each featuring a smoky cheese, like Gouda on the brisket sandwich and cheddar on the turkey and pork belly stacks.
