Arby's Restaurant Group Inc. announced that it will donate $25,000 to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign, a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.
The donation is the culmination of Arby's Chicken Salad Taste-Off promotion, a friendly competition that compared the taste of Arby's Market Fresh Grilled Chicken & Pecan Salad Sandwich and Wrap against Subway's Orchard Chicken Salad Sandwich.
Earlier this month, Arby's invited people to try its chicken salad sandwich and Subway's, and then cast a vote on Facebook for the one they thought tasted better. Arby's won with 8,820 votes to Subway's 1,048. Arby's pledged to donate $1 per vote to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign.
"We are thrilled with the response to the Arby's Chicken Salad Taste-Off," said Brian Kolodziej, chef and vice president of product development, Arby's Restaurant Group. "In fact, we're so excited, we're more than doubling the money raised by the votes and giving $25,000 to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign. We are truly proud to support their mission."
Arby's Market Fresh Grilled Chicken & Pecan Salad is prepared daily in-store, with 100 percent whole chicken breast, crisp red apples, celery, red grapes and pecans. The chicken salad ingredients are blended with mayonnaise and served on either honey wheat Market Fresh bread or Arby's new, whole-grain flatbread wrap.
The sandwich and wrap are available nationwide through mid-August.
