That staple of Southern lunchboxes — pimento cheese — is making a rare first fast food appearance this summer when North Carolina-based QSR, Bojangles' debuts two versions of the pimento cheese sandwich in biscuit form, according to a news release.
The brand said diners can order the pimento cheese biscuit, a spicier Cajun filet biscuit, with the spread or add pimento cheese to any menu item for a limited time. The brand's version of the spread is made with three types of cheese: diced pimentos, mayonnaise and what it calls its "own spin" of flavor.
"Bojangles' is all about real deal Southern flavor, and pimento cheese is as Southern as it gets," Bojangles' CMO Jackie Woodward said in the release. "We've tested the pimento cheese products with great results in Wilmington, North Carolina, and are thrilled to now share them with our guests in participating restaurants across our entire system."
The brand wants customers to not only order the LTOs but also share photos of them eating the biscuits or other menu items with it on Twitter or Instagram using #PimentoCheeseFaceContest for a chance to win an appearance in a 5-second Bojangles' commercial and a $1,000 Bojangles' gift card. Posts are being judged on originality, humor and presence of Bojangles' pimento cheese products.
Bojangles' has 763 system-wide restaurants, of which 320 were company-operated and 443 were franchised.
