Brands usher in 2017 with LTOs

December 28, 2016

All around the fast food universe, chains are preparing to be reborn as newer, better versions of themselves when the new year starts at midnight Saturday. Here are some of the ways QSR brands are celebrating the start of 2017:

Bowled over at Bojangles':Bojangles' is making its beloved barbecue pulled pork the star attraction in its new pulled pork bowls for a limited time, according to a news release. The new bowl offering combines Cajun pinto beans with a sweet, smoky sauce and pulled pork barbecue, then tops it all with cole slaw and a buttermilk biscuit on the side. The brand did not say how long the offering would be available, only that it is not a permanent menu addition at this point.

Wienerschnitzel begins year with never-ending fries: Hot dog chain, Wienerschnitzel, is saying "cheese" to start the new year, by offering diners 99-cent chili cheese fries all day on Jan. 1. The chili and cheese-topped fried potatoes have long been a favorite for the brand, according to a news release. In fact, the one-day deal is an unlimited offer, so there is no limit on the amount of chili cheese fries a guest can at least try to put away, as long as it all goes down within that particular day.

Papa John's says "cheese" to New Year:The chain said it is adding a limited time offering of cheese sticks to kick off 2017. The LTOs come in either bacon or a multiple cheese variety, according to a news release. The bacon sticks are stuffed with smoked strips, cheddar and mozzarella, while the Wisconsin cheese sticks combine asiago, fontina, provolone, cheddar and mozzarella. The menu additions are the kind of tote-able stuff that the chain hopes will attract lots of football-fixated fans who need both hands relatively free to make fist pumps and pound tables as their teams perform. Papa John's is also adding a permanent new menu item in its cinnamon pull-aparts.
