Burger King said today it's launching an LTO nationwide of its Impossible Whopper, beginning Aug. 8. The news comes on the heels of yesterday's news that OSI Group — one of McDonald's key beef suppliers, according to Crain's Chicago Business — is partnering with Impossible Foods to expand production of the Impossible Burger, which is the base product behind Burger King's Impossible Whopper. No plans to provide Impossible Foods products to McDonald's have been announced, but QSRweb is awaiting response on the question from the mammoth fast food chain.
At Burger King, customers across the U.S. can order the Impossible Whopper from Aug. 8 to Sept. 1 to eat in stores or have delivered, a news release said. In fact, customers who order the sandwich or its meat-based cousin through DoorDash, using the IMPOSSIBLE code will also get free delivery.
"We are really excited to be able to offer our new Impossible Whopper to our guests across the country at an unbeatable value for a limited time," Burger King Corporation North America President Chris Finazzo, said in the release. "Since we first launched our market tests in St. Louis in April, and later in six other markets across the country, we've heard great feedback and know the Impossible Whopper appeals to both current guests who are already big fans of the Whopper sandwich, as well as new guests who are excited about this new option."
Burger King currently has approximately 7,000 locations across the U.S. It was the first nationwide fast food burger brand to offer a version of the Impossible Burger, though the regional chain, White Castle launched its version, the Impossible Slider, before that and the product was offered at numerous brands in more extensive service categories before that after its debut at Momofuku Nishi in 2016.
