Restaurant Business International, parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons and Popeyes, has committed to being 100% cage-free in 92% of global markets by 2025, and in the remaining 8% of markets by 2030, according to a press release from the Open Wing Alliance, an international coalition working to end the abuse of chickens worldwide.
The company has more than 29,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
"By prioritizing transparency and accountability in its cage-free reporting, RBI demonstrates its dedication to setting a new standard for global animal welfare, " Hannah Surowinski, global corporate relations coordinator at OWA, said in the press release. "We anticipate this will inspire others to follow in RBI's footsteps, specifically Focus Brands, Inspire Brands, Costa Coffee who have yet to start publicly reporting their global cage-free egg progress."
