Burger King is playing something like a game of "chicken" with KFC this week after the burger chain introduced a grilled chicken sandwich. The brand, which often takes on its key competitors in tongue-in-cheek media wars, launched the new sandwich by posting a YouTube video that calls itself "K.F.G.," short for King of Flame Grilling, a news release said.
The burger brand augmented the launch with the use of special edition K.F.G. sandwich wrappers this week at select Kentucky, Miami, Los Angeles and New York Burger King locations.
"Burger King has been flame-grilling since our first restaurant opened in 1954," Burger King President of North America Chris Finazzo, said in the release. "We have over 60 years of grilling expertise under our belt. We wanted to celebrate this expertise and show that when it comes to flame-grilling, we 'reign' over the competition. We're not just the King of flame-grilling Whopper sandwiches, we're also the King of flame-grilling chicken."
The sandwich features a marinated, seasoned white meat filet with lettuce, tomato and honey mustard on a potato bun for $4.99 or $6.99 for a combo meal that includes a small drink and fries.
