Burger King Scholars Program awards $2.2 million in scholarships

The Burger King Scholars Program has awarded nearly 2,000 scholarships to high school graduates in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, totaling approximately $2.2 million.

For the second consecutive year, four major awards were given, including three $50,000 James W. McLamore Whopper Scholarship Awards and one $25,000 King Award. In addition, four students won $5,000 regional scholarships and 1,986 students were awarded $1,000 scholarships.

Created in memory of Burger King co-founder James W. McLamore, the scholars program has awarded a total of 17,064 scholarships to students and employees across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, representing $17.6 Million in awards since the program's inception in 2000.

Through its national fundraising efforts, the Burger King McLamore Foundation increased this year's scholars program fund by more than 50 percent.

Scholarship recipients were selected based on their grade point average, extracurricular activities, community service and/or work experience. Both Burger King employees and non-employees are eligible to apply. More than 20 percent of this year's scholarships were awarded to employees or children of employees, including one of the James W. McLamore Whopper Scholarship Awards.
