Burger King's scholars program marks 10th year

October 3, 2010

Burger King's Have It Your Way Foundation, the company's charitable arm, has launched its annual fall fundraiser to support its scholars program.

Guests who donate $1 at participating Burger King restaurants throughout the United States will receive a booklet containing seven free Burger King value menu-sized fry coupons and one coupon for a small soft drink.

The fundraiser runs through Oct. 31 and is the largest in-restaurant promotion for the foundation. All proceeds will go toward the program, which has granted more than $14 million in scholarships to students in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

To mark the 10-year milestone, Burger King has expanded scholarship opportunities. In addition to offering $1,000 awards, there are also new $5,000 regional scholarships this year, as well as an annual $25,000 King Scholar Award.

Students who earn the awards are able to use the funds for two-or four-year colleges, as well as for accredited technical and vocational programs.

Current high school seniors and Burger King employees are encouraged to apply through www.haveityourwayfoundation.org. The scholarship winners will be announced in May.

“The Burger King Scholars Program is an opportunity for Burger King Corp., our franchisees, vendors and guests to help students finance a higher education. Over the last 10 years, the program has helped more than 13,000 students alleviate some of the financial burden of the rising cost of higher education,” said Ivette Diaz, executive director, Have It Your Way Foundation. "Our revamped Burger King Scholars Program allows for more opportunities, for more students, in more ways than ever before."
