Less than a year after being named the agency of record for CKE Restaurants' Carl's Jr. and Hardee's brands, Southern California-based David & Goliath has been replaced.
72andSunny, out of L.A., has been handed the creative duties for the company without a review.
According to the OC Register, Brad Haley, CMO at CKE, said the move came after the they had grown concerned about the recent direction of the agency's ads.
David & Goliath's ads included "Robot," "Miss Turkey," "Hamblor" and "Anthem."
David Angelo, founder and chief creative officer of David & Goliath, said in a statement that the turkey burger launch reversed Carl's Jr.'s declining sales and substantially increased the positive momentum of Hardee's sales.
Perhaps nudging the switch, Haley told the OC Register that two veterans from Mendelsohn/Zien, Carl's Jr.'s former AOR, have been added to the 72andSunny team. Mendelsohn/Zien was responsible for some of Carl's Jr.'s more memorable ads featuring celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and Padma Lakshmi.
72andSunny will begin its creative work with CKE after the New Year. It has been CKE's digital creative agency since 2009.
