Chick-fil-A among chains testing sweet potato fries

May 2, 2011

Chick-fil-A is testing sweet potato waffle fries beginning this week in the Philadelphia market.

The Franchise Hound reports that the new fries include Vitamin A, C and B6, and are available at 26 Philadelphia area locations until August. They're also being tested in Oklahoma City, Okla., Memphis, Tenn., and Athens, Ga.

Philadelphia customers will be able to experience the fries for free during a giveaway promotion May 13. If the tests prove successful, the fries could potentially be rolled out nationwide.

Sweet potato fries seem to be hitting the sweet spot at quick-service chains. Culver's announced in March that it will roll out sweet potato fries as a limited time offering sometime this summer and El Pollo Loco has confirmed tests of the item.

The Los Angeles Times reported last month that CKE Restaurants' Carl's Jr. and Hardee's brands also are testing the menu item.
