Chick-fil-A opens 1st international franchise

July 25, 2018

One day after it announced its entrance into the mealkit market, Chick-fil-A said today it's opening its first franchisee-owned international location next year in Toronto. The brand is, in fact, recruiting operators for Greater Toronto area locations, a news release said.

"Toronto is a great city — with diverse and caring people and a vibrant restaurant culture with a deep talent pool," Chick-fil-A President and COO Tim Tassopoulos, said in the release. "These strengths align perfectly with Chick-fil-A's focus on community giving, delivering a premium product, and working with passionate people that can grow with our company - making Toronto the perfect choice for international expansion."

The company said it's offering a low economic barrier to entry for ownership ($15,000 CAD compared to $100,000 to $300,000 for many Canadian franchises). Sixty percent of Chick-fil-A operators come from within the company each year, according to the release.

The brand plans to open15 stores in the next five years in the Toronto area, with the addition of 50 to 75 new jobs per location. The company said it has also made a commitment to build longstanding partnerships with local suppliers. The brand now has 2,300 restaurants in total.
