Chick-fil-A is piloting automated delivery with the help of robotics from tech company Refraction AI, according to a report in WSB-TV.
The robots are being tested at units in Austin, Texas, as well as stores in California and Florida.
WSB-TV reported the robots top out at 15 miles per hour and have a delivery zone of about a mile from the restaurant.
"It's always going to be about well-prepared, quality food," John Featherston, Chick-fil-A's senior director of new ventures, told WSB-TV. "But where and how you consume your Chick-fil-A meal based on your daily needs is constantly changing. We want to learn how to extend our hospitality from our restaurants to meet you where you are."
The robots use AI and depth perception cameras to manuver around car lanes and pedestrians. Weather should not affect the robots.
Chick-fil-A tested autonomous delivery previously in California, according to a report in the New York Post.
