One Florida Chick-fil-A location is offering to deliver orders by drone, according to a New York Post report.
The Chick-fil-A in Brandon/Valrico, Florida, a suburb of Tampa, is delivering items via drone between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for diners within a 1.2-mile radius.
The franchise has partnered with DroneUp, which launched delivery by drone with a Tampa-based Walmart. The company is based in Virginia.
"We are in the early stages of testing drone delivery at a small number of Chick-fil-A restaurants," Chelsea Lee, Chick-fil-A spokesperson, told The Tampa Bay Times in an email.
For the drone option customers select drone delivery when ordering through the Chick-fil-A app. Team members load the food into cardboard boxes, which are then attached to a drone, which flies the order to its destination. The food is delivered by a cable, which lightly drops it to the ground to the customer.
Chick-fil-A has been testing autonomous delivery since last May. The drone delivery is being tested at other brand restaurants as well.
