Dairy Queen, Cold Stone partner with Reese's on ice cream-ified peanut but cup concoctions

June 3, 2019

This week, ice cream-focused brands, Cold Stone Creamery and Dairy Queen, both announced relationships with Reese's (of peanut butter cup fame) to bring ice cream versions of the chocolate and peanut butter mash-ups to each QSR's customers.

At Cold Stone Creamery, a news release said the brand has introduced an item that stuffs a chocolate cup with layers of Reese's peanut butter sauce and chocolate ice cream, topped with fudge ganache, sea salt and a peanut butter cup.

"Peanut butter and chocolate have always been a dreamy flavor combination, add in ice cream and sea salt and it's more decadent than ever," Sara Schmillen, vice president of marketing at Cold Stone Creamery parent company, Kahala Brands, said in the release.

Meanwhile over at competitor, Dairy Queen, the brand is debuting two Reese's Lovers Blizzard Treats this June that give customers a chance to choose whether their peanut butter-and-chocolate selection runs heavier on the chocolate OR the peanut butter.

Those who prefer that whipped nut butter flavor first and foremost can choose the Reese's Peanut Butter Lovers Blizzard Treat, while chocoholics will gravitate toward the Reese's Chocolate Lovers Blizzard Treat.

"The limited-edition Reese's Lovers Cups are flying off store shelves, making DQ restaurants a go-to destination to get a special Reese's Lovers experience," American Dairy Queen Executive Vice President of Marketing Maria Hokanson, said in the release.

Dairy Queen is also the focus of the QSRweb podcast this coming Friday, June 7, when American Dairy Queen Franchising Development Director Julie Davis is the guest with all the latest on the brand's cold and creamy culinary concoctions, as well as its growth and tech plans, right here on QSRweb Friday.
