Cousins Subs restaurants, title sponsor of Special Olympics Minnesota's Annual Unified Flag Football Tournament, will donate 600 meals (consisting of a 5-inch sub, chips and a cookie) to athletes.
The tournament, Oct. 12-13 at the West St. Paul Sports Center, will also be provided with an additional 575 meals at a discounted rate.
The event, part of the Special Olympics' Unified Sports Program, expects to draw more than 700 athletes and spectators from all over the state.
"The mission of Special Olympics fits perfectly with our overall mission to 'Make It A Better Day,'" said Justin McCoy, vice president of Marketing, Cousins Subs. "We recognize the inherent benefits that are provided by encouraging and instructing people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Their flag football tournament allows athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to compete on the same football field – it's an event filled with laughs, healthy competition and pride."
Through food donations, pledges raised by employee teams and in-store donations, Cousins Subs has provided continued support to Special Olympics in Minnesota and Northeastern Wisconsin.
"Cousins Subs has been a great philanthropic partner to Special Olympics," said Casey Meyer, development associate, Special Olympics Minnesota. "With their support, we have been able to provide over 700 athletes with state-of-the-art facilities to practice and compete in. Cousins Subs also supports the Polar Bear Plunge in both Rochester and Minneapolis; they are truly a wonderful partner, making it better for our organization in many ways."
