Cousins Subs is introducing two pretzel bread subs to its menu: the Twisted Ham & Cheddar and the Twisted Turkey & Roast Beef.
"Development of the 'Twisted Subs' took a bit of thought and experimentation," said Kim Kofler, vice president of Operations at Cousins Subs. "Pretzel-type food is among the top 10 upcoming food innovations of 2012 and we wanted to find a way to incorporate this trend into our existing menu. In addition, we wanted to offer our guests a comforting, feel-good sandwich for the colder months."
New additions to the Cousins Subs menu are evaluated at a test kitchen located at the company's corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wisc. Kofler's menu development team conducts "Kitchen Time," where management, franchise owners and other business partners come in to sample food and provide feedback on recipes. These sessions are held frequently through out the year.
"Pretzel bread was a huge hit in 'Kitchen Time,' and that's great for us, because Cousins Subs has always been known for our terrific, freshly-baked bread," Kofler said. "The participants really loved the flavor profiles of both of these Twisted subs. We're pleased with our result; we think our guests will be, too."
The Twisted Ham & Cheddar features hot ham with melted cheddar cheese, bistro sauce, lettuce, onions and tomatoes on pretzel bread. A packet of crushed red peppers is served on the side.
The Twisted Turkey & Roast Beef features roast beef, turkey breast, cheddar cheese, brown mustard, mayo, lettuce, onions and tomatoes on pretzel bread.
The new subs will be available in Cousins Subs stores starting today and through the end of the year.
