Culver's, A&W focus on meals $4 or less
October 13, 2009
Subway introduced the $5 price point last year with its successful footlong campaign, and quick-service brands, from Blimpie Subs to KFC, were quick to follow their lead. Now brands are trending down to $4 and below, with Culver's and A&W Restaurants focusing on meals at the lower-price point.
Culver's has introduced eight new Snack Pak meals priced at under $4. The new Snack Pak options include single regular-sized ButterBurger or other Culver's entrée item, french fries and a drink. Meals range in price from $3.19 to $3.99. Snack Pak meal options include:
- Original ButterBurger
- Original ButterBurger with Cheese
- Single Deluxe ButterBurger
- Cheddar or Swiss ButterBurger
- Two-Piece Chicken Tender
- Bacon Deluxe ButterBurger
- Mushroom Swiss ButterBurger
- Chili Cheese Dog
"Our new Snack Pak meals make it easier for our guests to order and enjoy their favorite everyday menu items as part of a full meal," said Culver's vice president of marketing, David Stidham. "And we're doing what's right for our guests by including fries and drink for less than $4, which is more than a lot of our competitors can say during these tough economic times."
A&W Restaurants is promoting four new $4 combos on its Web site, featuring the Deluxe Cheeseburger, Chili Cheeseburger, Cheddar Onion Melt and Johnsonville Brat. The Web site does not include a description of the combo deals, but the home page includes a photo of an order of fries and a mug of A&W Root Beer alongside the entree items.
KFC began the full meal comparison to Subway's sandwich offer earlier this year with its $5 Fill-Up Box. Arby's latest campaign features value meals for $5.01, focusing on the extra cent in its Worth Every Penny tagline.
