Dairy Queen brings a 'Blizzard' of slurping to baseball season

March 27, 2018

Fifteen U.S. cities will go baseball crazy Thursday when the Major League Baseball season officially opens in their hometowns, and Dairy Queen is looking for a cut of the action with its "Triple Play Blizzard Treat." The Ballpark-centered treat has "very limited availability" and will be found at only one DQ store per city, a news release said.

This delectable headache-inducing concoction blends caramel-coated peanuts, caramel popcorn brittle and "choco" chunks with the brand's soft-serve ice cream. That blend is topped with pretzel rods and choco-drizzled caramel popcorn.

"This is the first time in 50 years that all 30 teams will open on the same day and we are celebrating as only DQ can, with a spectacular baseball-inspired treat created for fans cheering on their teams on opening day," American Dairy Queen Corporation Executive Vice President of Marketing Maria Hokanson said in the release. "We recommend fans come in quickly because this Blizzard Treat tested off the charts and won't be available for long."

Minneapolis-based International Dairy Queen now includes a system of more than 6,800 locations in the United States, Canada and more than 25 other countries. It's a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
