Dairy Queen encourages fans to name 'Today' show goldfish

November 25, 2013

As NBC's "Today" show solicits name suggestions for the Orange Room's new goldfish mascot, the Dairy Queen system is asking customers to vote for the name Julius. The name is a nod to Dairy Queen's Orange Julius concept, which was acquired in 1987.

Votes can be made online at today.com.

"We think naming the Orange Room fish Julius is a natural fit," said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of Marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation. "Although our version of Orange Julius is a fruit-blended beverage, we'd be honored to share the name with the show's newest member."

If Julius makes the cut, Dairy Queen will host an Orange Julius party, bringing the brand's fruit smoothies and drinks to 'Today' show plaza and the show's fans, Westrum said.
