Dairy Queen survey shows American ice cream tastes

MINNEAPOLIS — International Dairy Queen has commissioned a survey asking U.S. adults how they like their ice cream cones and toppings in time for National Ice Cream Day on July 15.
The survey, administered by Harris Interactive, found that of the nine in 10 U.S. adults who enjoy ice cream in a cone:
- 50 percent prefer a waffle cone over a sugar, cake, or other type of cone
- About 34 percent prefer a sugar cone
When it comes to ice cream toppings, various types of syrups topped the list among the 89 percent of adults who ever eat ice cream with toppings:
- 62 percent of consumers prefer hot fudge
- 49 percent of consumers prefer nuts
- 48 percent of consumers prefer chocolate
- 36 percent of consumers prefer caramel
- 23 percent of consumers prefer butterscotch
The Dairy Queen Ice Cream survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive between June 21 and June 25 among 3,221 adults aged 18 and over.
