The tests are in, and the nation's second-largest U.S. Mexican QSR brand, Del Taco, said it has proved overwhelmingly positive for expansion of the brand's plant-based meat Beyond Tacos menu to all of its 580 locations nationally. In fact, Del Taco said in a news release it's the first Mexican fast food chain to offer Beyond Meat's products nationwide.
To celebrate, the brand is offering all of its app users a free, no purchase necessary Beyond Taco or Beyond Avocado Taco with the promo code, "Beyond," from April 25 to May 2.
"After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans during our tests in various parts of the country and across social media, we knew it was time to bring our Beyond Tacos to guests nationwide," Del Taco President and CEO John Cappasola, said in the release. "We saw a unique opportunity to develop our own recipe in partnership with Beyond Meat, adding various spices to create a signature Del Taco taste consumers can't get anywhere else."
The company said its Beyond Tacos items provide the same amount of protein as their seasoned beef tacos, only in plant form, making them an option for everyone from vegans and vegetarians to flexitarians and just curious meat-eaters.
In addition to the core Beyond Taco items, Del Taco is now offering Beyond Meat as a sub-in for any other meat on its menu, including those in burritos, nachos and fries. The two initial Beyond Meat menu items include the vegan-compliant, Beyond Avocado Taco with Beyond Meat crumbles, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes in a taco shell or the vegetarian-compliant Beyond Taco which also includes cheddar cheese.
